The PracticeSession practice app for Android
Last Updated: September 2026
This privacy policy covers the PracticeSession mobile application for Android (package app.practicesession.mobile), published by Practice Session. Our desktop applications and our separate tuner app are covered by their own policies.
PracticeSession is a practice tool. Your music, your recordings and your practice work stay on your phone. The app works fully offline and needs no account.
Five things can send something off your device, and each one only when you ask for it: sending us a support message, searching for lyrics, separating a song into stems, turning on library sync, and starting a trial or buying something. Each is described below.
The one thing the app does on its own is ask our server, when it starts, what this device is allowed to use. Section 3 says what that sends.
There are no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking. The one piece of third-party code in the app that talks to anybody is Google's billing library, which is there so that you can buy inside the app; section 6 says what it brings with it. We do not sell your data, and we never will.
By default, everything. The app stores the following in its own private storage area, which no other app can read:
This data is yours. We cannot read it. Uninstalling the app removes all of it from your device.
The app asks for microphone access (Android permission android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO) for two features, and uses it for nothing else:
Recordings never leave your phone unless you choose to share one using Android's own share sheet, or you turn on library sync and the recording is uploaded as part of your library. Both are described below.
If you decline microphone access, the rest of the app works normally; only the tuner and the recorder are unavailable.
When the app needs to talk to our server, it identifies itself with the Android system value Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID. We use it to keep your credit balance, your free trial and any unlock you have bought attached to this device, and to tell your devices apart when you sync.
The app asks our server what this device is allowed to use when it starts. That is how a trial, a purchase or a licence you already have is recognised without you having to do anything, including after reinstalling the app. The request sends the identifier above and the app version, and your email address only if you are signed in. It is the one request the app makes without being asked for it, and if it cannot be reached, nothing changes: the app carries on with the answer it already had.
If you fill in the support form under "About and help", we receive:
We use this only to answer you. Nothing is sent unless you press send.
The app can look up lyrics from LRCLIB, an independent community lyrics database that we do not run.
Stem separation splits a recording into parts, such as vocals and drums. It runs in the cloud, not on your phone, so using it uploads the audio file you selected. This is the most significant thing the app can send, so to be explicit:
Sync is off by default and does nothing until you turn it on for a library. When you do:
The app has no account and asks for nothing until a feature needs one. Stem separation credits and library sync both require a verified email address: you enter your address, we email you a code, and you enter the code in the app. We store the address, the fact that it is verified, and the device it was verified on.
Anything you buy inside the app is bought through Google Play. Google takes the payment and hands the app a purchase token; we send that token to Google to confirm it, and then record what was bought, when, and Google's own order identifier, against this device and against your account if the device has ever been signed in. We re-check with Google from time to time that a purchase is still valid, so that one which has been refunded stops unlocking the app. Your card details are handled entirely by Google Play. We never receive or store them.
A trial needs neither an account nor a purchase. Starting one records the device identifier and the date it began, which is how a trial is kept to one per device.
To be explicit, we do not collect or transmit any of this:
The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or social-login software of our own, and no tracking SDKs.
One qualification, because a flat claim here would be wrong. The version of the app distributed on Google Play includes Google's Play Billing library, which is what lets you buy anything inside the app, and that library brings a number of Google Play services components with it. They are Google's, they are there to carry out and report on the purchase, and we neither add to them nor receive anything through them. One of them is a location component the billing library depends on: the app asks for no location permission and cannot read your location, which you can confirm in the app's permission list on your phone.
These are the outside services that can receive data in connection with the app. Open-source software included in the app is listed separately under "Third-party licences" in the app itself; those components run on your device and receive nothing.
The three infrastructure providers above, and LALAL.AI, act as processors under our instructions and do not use your data for their own purposes. LRCLIB and Google Play are not our processors: they are independent services rather than providers working on our behalf, and their own terms govern what reaches them. Where a category of provider is named rather than a company, that is because the provider may change over time. We will tell you which providers we currently use if you ask: write to support@practicesession.app.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing by anyone.
Traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Synced files are transferred using short-lived links that grant access to a single file. Data on your phone is held in the app's private storage area, which Android keeps isolated from other apps.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not store payment details and we keep what we do store to the minimum the features need.
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict our processing of it. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights come from the GDPR, and our lawful basis is performance of our contract with you for account and sync features, and our legitimate interests for security and support. If you are in California, you have equivalent rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell personal information under either law.
You can delete your account from inside the app, under Tools, then Libraries. It erases the account, the libraries synced to it and their files, and signs this phone out; the libraries already on the phone stay there as local ones. You can also use our data deletion page or email support@practicesession.app, and we will act on it.
Three things survive a deletion, and we would rather state them than let you discover them:
Two things deleting your account does not do. An unlock bought through Google Play belongs to your Google account rather than to us, so it survives and is restored if you reinstall the app. A paid sync plan is not cancelled by it: cancel that where you took it out, or it keeps renewing. Unspent stem separation credits are forfeited and are not refunded.
Stopping sync, or removing a library from a phone, leaves your copy on our server; deleting your account is what removes it. Uninstalling the app removes everything held on the phone.
Our server and database are hosted in the United States (Virginia). Synced files are held by our cloud object storage provider, whose primary storage location for our account is in eastern North America; that provider operates globally and may serve or store data from other locations. LALAL.AI, which receives audio you submit for separation, is operated from Switzerland. If you use the app from outside these places, your information is transferred to and processed in them, and the data protection laws there may differ from those where you live.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.
If the app's data practices change, we will update this page and the "Last Updated" date above. Significant changes will also appear in the app's release notes and its Google Play listing.
